Replaying Communism investigates how contemporary cultural production reflects on and represents the experience of communism across Central and Eastern Europe (1945-1990). To do this, we combine two main approaches. First, we engage in close textual analysis of media and museums created/established across CEE that depict/curate life under Communist regimes. Second, we consider how these representations of this period coincide with the political and cultural context during the Communist occupation and today. This leads to rich debates about the collective responsibility for and reckoning with the Communist era. We also engage in how the experience of communism impacts the European idea today. In doing so, we aim to de-Westernise Anglophone scholarship about media history and cultural memory concerning representations of the communist past by working with authors from across CEE and beyond.
