Introduction

In my related study, I intend to explore the evolution and growth of alternative fashion, alongside the revolutionary political messages expressed through their couture. Inspiration for this topic came about primarily due to my interests and having spent my childhood surrounded and growing up with the music and clothing associated with the subcultures. As the label ‘alternative’ fashion is so broad I will be looking into specific subcultures such as punk and goth.
