Alternative Fashion: At a Glance
Alternative fashion, often referred to as ‘alt’, is a style of clothing that came about in the 1970s and 1980s, made up of different subcultures. Alternative fashion utilises clothing as its manifesto and is often imbued with politics and offers a message of nonconformity, individualism and self-expression, specifically against society. Alt clothing in its most basic form stereotypically features a black and white colour palette, band shirts, layering, accessorising and varieties of different fabrics. (@taivallan) (fig .1)
