Based on low throughput and high attrition rates, current curriculum structures pose a systemic obstacle to access and success for the majority of students entering the Higher Education system.
The SU Faculty of Engineering has been engaged in active programme renewal initiatives in alignment with national, professional and institutional mandates. Our approach is guided by four key curriculum principles (Council on Higher Education, 2013);
to ensure the development of foundational knowledge
to enable the transition from fundamental to engineering sciences and application
to develop increased programme breadth (globalisation and employability)
to support enrichment through key literacies (academic, disciplinary, and digital).
