Standard 8 - Collaborative Relationships – The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.
In meeting the Illinois Professional Teaching Standard: Collaborative Relationships, the artifact I created was with a group presentation with three other members of my cohort class. The reason I chose this artifact is that it shows how competent teachers build and maintain collaborative relationships that foster physical, social, and emotional development.
Throughout this artifact, it was important to focus on the Illinois Professional Teaching Standard, "Collaborative Relationships", throughout this process I feel that I met with the section 8F, which states, "the competent teacher understands the importance of participating in collaborative and problem-solving teams to create effective academic and behavioral interventions for all students". This was shown through the presentation that we created because it was directed towards other cohort members and administrators who may not know what Guided Discovery Learning is. The presentation is meant to draw in collaboration among cohort members and administrators in order to share information that can be vital to students' learning and academic needs.
While helping make this presentation, I, myself actually learned several different things about Guided Discovery Learning, that I had not been introduced to in the past. I realized that some of my weaknesses in this area were that I had not known how Guided Discovery can go and how it can branch off into several other categories that can affect students learning abilities and academics.
In meeting the Illinois Professional Teaching Standard: Collaborative Relationships, the second artifact I created was Fine Arts Lesson Plan. This activity was made in the Fall of 2020 and was a collaboration of three other cohort members.
This was shown through how we had to collaborate with one another while working remotely from home and plan a lesson for a 3rd-grade class. Two of the members had to be the teachers while the other two members had to become the 3rd-grade students.
After making this artifact I have learned that it is easy to accomplish collaborative relationships with students and coworkers when sharing ideas and plans with them that they can relate to. This will help in my future teaching career because it will allow me to open myself up to new opportunities and new accomplishments among my fellow coworkers and students.
