Characteristics and Causes of Adaptive P.E. Accommodations and Modifications Paper for Adaptive P.E.
The artifacts I have attached above are papers relating to the characteristics of ADHD, autism, and down syndrome and how to make accommodations and modifications lesson plans for those students. Also, attached is a power point presentation on modifications and accommodations for students with autism. These artifacts along with other resources on many exceptional needs where given for the length of my academic learning career have helped me with my understanding about students with exceptional needs and how to properly provide those students an equal education in my future P.E. classroom.
The artifacts listed above have helped me in understanding how to accommodate my teaching philosophy and style to Illinois State Standard 1: Teaching Diverse Students. Specifically, the artifacts have helped me in my knowledge of Standard 1B) “understands how each student constructs knowledge, acquires skills, and develops effective and efficient critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities;” by giving me the opportunity to learn and understand the specific needs of students with autism and how to engage with these students in a classroom to enhance their cognitive knowledge of the lessons and physical performance skills in my class. By gaining this knowledge through these artifacts I feel that I can provide my students with the best classroom experience possible.
After finishing AEDU216 I feel better prepared in my ability to adjust my instruction based on the individualized needs of my students. While keeping in mind that each student is different and though I may have students with the same disability the instruction that I provide for them still needs to be modified to fit the needs of that student specifically. I look forward to the day that I can take what I have learned from this class and incorporate it into my Adaptive P.E. class!
