Durkhanai Ayubi is an Afghan born writer, restaurateur, public speaker and an advocate of Afghan voices in arenas spanning socio-cultural and political realms.
She is the author of Parwana: Recipes and Stories from an Afghan Kitchen, published internationally in 2020, to global acclaim, winning awards including Best International Cookbook by the Food Writers Guild Award in the UK and the Art of Eating Prize in the US, and translated into German and Dutch.
Her work and writing has been featured in publications globally, including The New York Times, the LA Times, Al Jazeera, the BBC, the CBC and beyond.
She is a 2022 recipient of South Australia's 40 Under 40 Award, also winning the Social Impact Award. She is a Fellow of the social justice based Atlantic Fellowship, based at Oxford University in the UK.

The poems and images I've shared each have to do with elements of the identity of Afghan women - identities that are suppressed by many forces, including post-colonial disruptions, long term militarisation, and the extremist patriarchal regimes that have flourished as a result of this continued unrest.
