How a UK idea became and Australian Movement — The origins of RDA
Riding for the Disabled began in England in the late 1960s, when horse riding was first recognised as a way to support people with disability.
The idea spread internationally and soon reached Australia.
The Australian Beginning
In 1964, Peter and June McIntyre began the first Australian program at Kenmore, Queensland, using their own ponies.
In 1973, they established a purpose-built facility at Pinjarra Hills, later known as the McIntyre Centre. For her pioneering work, June McIntyre received the British Empire Medal.

Founded in 1994, the Kendall Centre has delivered more than 30 years of safe, inclusive programs supporting physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.
A small group of locals believed in the power of horses to change lives. That belief still guides us today.
We remain community-led, volunteer-powered, and focused on what really matters.
Growing a Local Legacy — How support become a lasting change
Through our work, riders have found new confidence and independence.
Volunteers have given countless hours to care for horses, support riders, and keep programs running. Local businesses, schools, and the local community have stood beside us with generosity and support.
