CT Scans May Increase the Risk of Brain Cancer ( Imaging Technology News, 2018) https://www.itnonline.com/content/ct-scans-may-increase-risk-brain-cancer.
CT HEAD:
Computed tomography (CT) of the head uses special x-ray equipment to help assess head injuries, severe headaches, dizziness, and other symptoms of aneurysm, bleeding, stroke, and brain tumours. It also helps your doctor to evaluate your face, sinuses, and skull or to plan radiation therapy for brain cancer. A CT Head scan is very often the first step in identifying and evaluating any abnormalities associated with the brain, especially following trauma.
CT of the head is useful in the following situations:
CT-guided stereotactic surgery and radiosurgery for treatment of intracranial tumours, arteriovenous malformations and other surgically treatable conditions using a device known as the N-localizer.
Traumatic head injury
Stroke and suitability for acute intervention.
Assessing tumours and surgical planning for their removal.
Pathological conditions e.g., hydrocephalus.
