– The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
This was a paper that I wrote in my science class and how I would use different management ideas and methods in my classroom. I am showing my knowledge of different theories and what would work in my classroom for a diverse class of students (2A). This was a fun paper to write as I was able to imagine my classroom and what I want to do in the future.
Something that I learned when I wrote this paper was that there is no perfect way for classroom management. My students are going to change every year so I will need to develop many methods that will work and change as my students do. However, with this paper as my baseline, I know that I can only build up from here and know what my baselines are for classroom management in my classroom for the future.
This is a reflection of the communication log that I was using to record the communications with students' families in my classroom. Each of my students is very diverse and unique and getting to reflect on their learning and how they are doing in class and on their assignments showed me how a lot of the students that I was focusing on were EL students. I also kept the log to show what my plan or next steps would be with communicating with the parents and also how I communicated with them about how I am going to work with their students more. I let families know that I am going to do my best in order to adapt to their child and meet each of them where they are and help them succeed in school (2P).
Something that I learned when I wrote this reflection was that being able to accumulate all of the messages I have had with parents and see whether they were positive, negative, or neutral conversations was really interesting for me. I got to see how much I communicated with parents as well as how much more I can do in the future for my students and their families/ guardians.
