In this blog, I will reflect on my experiences with this BUS208 module – Microeconomics for Managers, which I have been studying for the last semester during my second year. The reason why I chose this module is that I have studied economics before during A levels and first year of university, and microeconomics was my favourite part, so I wanted to go more into depth in this subject. This module is different from other modules, since it has more application questions rather than just memorising key concepts.
This module’s layout is very organised and has been practical for my learning. The main aspects of this module were the conditional access to weekly content via quiz completion, email reminders, problem sets, lecture slides, videos and having office hours for support. The problem sets have particularly been useful in applying my knowledge to some exam-style questions, with even having additional problem sets to work on. If I was struggling with a topic, I would use the lecture notes and videos to consolidate my knowledge, and having the office hours helped me clarify certain questions and topics, and my professor was helpful in answering my questions. The most beneficial part of this module was how weekly content was locked behind quizzes, which helped me revise the content each week, rather than leaving it all last minute. Also, it helps me find out what areas within that topic I need to work on e.g. not knowing how to work out the price and quantity at profit maximisation. To improve though, I wish we had unlimited attempts to those quizzes, or if there were other quizzes to test overall knowledge instead of limited to 3 tries. I would also like to have more variety of problem sets/quizzes, where it covers the whole module or topics that link together e.g. market structures quizzes in addition to the specific topic quizzes.
Overall, I have had a very positive experience with this module. Despite having previous knowledge on this subject, I was able to apply it to real world concepts and questions and has given me a more in depth understanding on microeconomics as a whole.
