PUP San Juan Campus

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome to Polytechnic University of the Philippines - San Juan City Campus. It is a privilege to lead and to be a steward to such an outstanding institution of higher learning, PUP as Sintang Paaralan. As this campus shares our university’s mission of providing quality education accessible to all especially to economically challenged members of society, we are pleased that you have given us the opportunity to be part and parcel of our youth’s gaining education as a shield from the world. Moreover, as what Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

We have been part of the greater academic community, especially the San Juan community since the founding of our campus in 2008. Our strong collaboration with our partner in education, the Local Government of the City of San Juan, has strengthened us and the community we serve.

PUP San Juan City Campus which started as a locally funded campus is now a viable institution by virtue of Republic Act 11348 and continues to grow and develop as a campus. Our sound curricula are led by great faculty members who are experts in their own fields of specialization, value learning and teaching. In addition, the academic program offerings from Education Accountancy, Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, Hospitality Management, Information Technology and Psychology to Secondary Education major in English help students develop skills that employers increasingly demand as well as prepare them for work, business and further studies. The PUPSJ internship program gives them opportunities to open doors to a brighter future. A survey of our yearly graduates showed that PUPSJ alumni are employed, are in graduate school or are simultaneously doing both, all within six months from graduation.

Our priority remains the same. The PUPSJ student is the most important entity in our campus. PUPSJ is here to cultivate minds, help form higher values and inspire the hearts of the students. So many of our students find that the public and noble mission of PUPSJ seeps into their beings and changes them in ways that challenges the world to ascend to a common good. In addition, put to use to do higher good by not only helping themselves but to lift their families to a higher quality of life. And this will in turn truly transform the world into a better place.

I, together with other campus officials, the faculty and non-teaching personnel are more dedicated than ever to continuing this work and bringing hope for our Iskolar ng Bayan during this challenging time. Our faith, love, and hope remain central to all that we do now and in the future.

Let us move forward to keep a PUP education relevant to the needs of our students and the world!

PUP San Juan History

Despite its proximity to Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Main Campus, the University’s commitment to democratize access to educational opportunities for economically challenged members of the society is strongly felt in the very heart of the National Capital Region, the historic city of the so called AngDakilangLungsod ng San Juan.

Through the relentless effort of the City Government of San Juan under the administration of Mayor Joseph Victor G. Ejercito, who believes in the power of education in nation building, the long cherished dream of the people of San Juan to establish a public college in the city has began to unfold. It started with the issuance of Memorandum Order NO. JVE-C-13, Series of 2007, creating a Special Committee to study and prepare the ground works for the establishment of an academic institution.

Recognizing PUP as a state-run university whose track record and history began at the turn of 19th century and continued to flourish to this day as a stronger and viable institution of higher learning committed to effect change in the lives of the youth, the SanguniangPanlungsod of San Juan through City Resolution No.32, Series of 2007 authorized Mayor JV Ejercito to sign the Memorandum of Agreement with the University on December 13, 2007.

The SanguniangPanlungsod passed City Ordinance No.6, Series of 2008, known as “An Ordinance Establishing a PUP Campus in the City of San Juan, Metro Manila and appropriating funds thereof” on January 21, 2008.

The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by Mayor Joseph Victor G. Ejercito, in behalf of the City of San Juan and University President Dr. Dante G. Guevarra, in behalf of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines on February 20, 2008 becomes the landmark in San Juan’s long history of struggle, this time against ignorance.

Subsequently, the PUP Board of Regents under Board Resolution No.613, Series of 2008 has approved and ratified the Memorandum of Agreement on March 14, 2008. Since then and for the years to come, PUP San Juan Campus strives to become Tanglaw ng Bayan saDambana ng Kagitingan.

Today, PUP San Juan City Campus which started as a locally funded campus is now a viable institution by virtue of Republic Act 11348 on 25 July 2019 and continues to grow and develop as a higher learning institution.
