Mental Effects of Teen Stress

  • Excessive teen stress may lead to one or more mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression.

  • It can cause teens to behave differently and make them more angry, irritable or introverted.

  • Teen stress may lead to teen drug usage, smoking, or drinking alcohol.

  • Teens may be restless, loose motivation, or feel too overwhelmed.

  • If teen experiences a traumatic event, they may develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

  • Teens can also experience concentration and memory issues from stress.

Physical Effects of Teen Stress

  • Teens may experience excessive headaches, stomachaches, or muscle pain.

  • Stress can cause teens to loose or gain weight.

  • Teen stress can cause insomnia and fatigue.

  • Stress can weaken a teen's immune system and raise blood sugar.

  • Teens may develop lung or breathing problems from stress.

  • If a teen is stressed, their blood pressure will raise, making them at a higher risk for a stroke or heart attack.

  • Stress can make it more likely for a teen to have acid reflux or other digestive issues.
