Protection Island Museum

We acknowledge that the Museum is located on the traditional unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, the keepers of this land.

Welcome to the Protection Island Museum and Archives, situated in the island's original lighthouse-keeper’s cottage on Gallows Point, the southernmost spot on the island.

It presents a permanent display of mining and social history, artifacts, photographs and maps as well as a comprehensive archive, which includes hundreds of documents related to Protection Island's history.

In 2026, the Museum and Gift Shop will be open from July and August, Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays, from 12 - 4 pm.

Volunteer at the Museum

We welcome volunteers to help out with events and exhibits. If you could spare an hour at one event or more, we would be happy to see you.
