Boats were available for rent from The Reliable Boat House (sometimes referred to as Anderson's Boat House) in Nanaimo, located at the foot of Wharf and Front Street. They also provided ferry service all over the harbour. The Anderson's lived in a float house there, which was later moved to Protection Island.Â
Their daughter, Marcia, had a piano which was ferried across to Protection Island each spring and placed in the Kanoo Dance Hall for dances. In the fall, it was taken back to town. If Marcia wanted to play her piano in the summer months, she had to row across to the island.
