Cottages were rented out for a modest weekly rate. They had wood stoves and kerosene lamps, no electricity or running water. Water was brought over on the boat by the bucketful until a cistern was built and wells dug.Â
Happyland catered to large groups such as churches, unions and other organizations holding annual picnics. They accommodated up to 500 people, providing hot water, picnic tables, and a playground.
Sand was brought in each spring to improve the beach.
