Infrastructure and Campus Development
An innovative initiative to repair the dilapidated roads within the NITTTR Kolkata residential campus was first conceptualized nearly three decades ago. However, it was revived and successfully implemented under the leadership of Prof. Naveen B. P. The project resulted in the design and construction of a concrete pavement prototype, which not only served as a practical infrastructure solution but also as a unique experiential learning platform for students.
A Unique Educational Experience
This pioneering project allowed students to apply their classroom knowledge of concrete pavement design in a real-world setting. Students were actively involved in every stage of the project, including planning, material selection, and execution. This hands-on engagement helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, providing them with invaluable experience.
Academic Rigor and Engineering Excellence
Under the expert guidance of Prof. Naveen, the project was carefully conceptualized, designed, and implemented, ensuring adherence to academic rigor, engineering excellence, and stringent safety standards. The entire initiative emphasized sustainable engineering practices and real-world problem-solving skills.
Cost-Effective and Sustainable Engineering
Remarkably, the project was completed at a cost of less than ₹3 lakhs, making it an exemplary case of cost-effective engineering and resource management. The initiative not only addressed the infrastructure needs of the campus but also demonstrated how efficient and sustainable engineering solutions can be achieved within budget constraints.
A Living Laboratory for Future Engineers
Today, the project continues to serve as a living laboratory, offering ongoing opportunities for students to observe and learn about infrastructure development in practice. It stands as a testament to how infrastructure development can be seamlessly integrated with technical education, helping nurture industry-ready engineers and problem-solvers.
Indian Geotechnical Student Chapter
IGS Student Chapter Inaugurated at NITTTR Kolkata; First Technical Workshop Successfully Conducted with 200 Participants
The Department of Civil Engineering at National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research, Kolkata (NITTTR Kolkata), in collaboration with MIDAS, successfully organized a hands-on technical workshop on “RCC Superstructures with Foundation Design.” The programme was conducted under the aegis of the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) Student Chapter, NITTTR Kolkata.
The workshop was organized under the leadership of Prof. Naveen BP, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, NITTTR Kolkata, whose guidance and vision played a pivotal role in the successful execution of the event.
A total of 200 participants, including students, research scholars, and faculty members, actively took part in the workshop. The programme provided comprehensive hands-on exposure to RCC superstructure analysis and foundation design methodologies using advanced engineering tools, thereby enhancing practical knowledge and industry readiness.
The event holds special significance as it was the first-ever programme organized by the IGS Student Chapter at NITTTR Kolkata, marking a historic milestone after more than two years of dedicated efforts by students and faculty. Notably, NITTTR Kolkata has become the first among all NITTTRs in India to establish an IGS Student Chapter, setting a benchmark in professional engagement and academic excellence in the field of geotechnical engineering.
The IGS Student Chapter was formally inaugurated on February 14, 2026, at the NITTTR Kolkata campus, ushering in a new era of student-led technical initiatives and strengthened industry–academia collaboration.
