The Centre of Excellence in Waterproofing Training and Research at NITTTR Kolkata, spearheaded by Prof. Naveen BP, represents a major step toward advancing waterproofing technology, research, and training in India. Established with an investment of ₹20 crore in state-of-the-art equipment, the Centre will provide hands-on training for engineers, students, and industry professionals, focusing on modern and sustainable waterproofing solutions. It will also facilitate industry-academia collaboration, enabling real-world testing and certification programs that enhance professional skills. Under Prof. Naveen BP’s visionary leadership, the Centre is set to become a national hub for innovation, research, and skill development in waterproofing technology.
Computational Civil Engineering Laboratory
The newly established Computational Civil Engineering Laboratory at NITTTR Kolkata, led by Prof. Naveen B.P., is a state-of-the-art facility aimed at equipping students, researchers, and faculty with the latest computational tools and technologies relevant to modern civil engineering. This advanced laboratory features simulation platforms including MIDAS software, providing high-end capabilities for analysis, design, and modeling. It enables hands-on experience in solving real-world engineering problems through computational methods. The lab supports cutting-edge learning and research in the following key areas: Structural analysis and finite element modeling; Pavement design and transportation engineering; Geotechnical and foundation simulations. By fostering an environment that bridges academic concepts with practical applications, the lab plays a pivotal role in capacity building, industry collaboration, and skill enhancement for future-ready civil engineers.
Centre for Integrated Skill Development (CISD)
The Centre for Integrated Skill Development (CISD) is a focused initiative aimed at providing skill development training to teachers, industry professionals, unemployed youth, and students, under the guiding theme "Skilling Youth, Enhancing Livelihood." The center meets the growing need for skilled manpower by offering demand-driven programs that enhance both employability and productivity.
As CISD Coordinator, Prof. Naveen B.P. played a pivotal role in revitalizing the program, which had previously faced operational and engagement challenges. He streamlined the student registration process, improved overall administrative efficiency, and introduced structured coordination with faculty and support staff. These interventions led to increased enrollment and a smoother learning experience for participants.
His leadership culminated in the successful completion of the first batch in November 2024, marking a major milestone in the program’s relaunch. Throughout the course, he provided continuous support, managing schedules, resolving logistical issues, and maintaining student motivation, ensuring high levels of engagement and program effectiveness.
This achievement not only restored credibility to the CISD initiative but also reinforced the institute’s commitment to practical, industry-aligned education. It strengthened the culture of skill-based learning on campus and aligned the institute more closely with national goals for employability and vocational excellence, positioning it as a key contributor to youth empowerment through targeted skill development.
