For this assignment, I have to reflect on what technical skills I gained taking the Office Training Simulations.
I thought I knew Word! I've been using it since elementary school, but the simulation training opened my eyes to how powerful it really is. I learned how to manage academic writing like a pro. The training guided me through features I’d never used before, and now I feel confident in writing a research paper with ease and precision.
Sources Manager: Organize and reuse citations across documents.
Automatic MLA Formatting: Generate citations and bibliographies.
Table of Contents Generator: Create dynamic TOCs that update as your document changes.
Navigation Pane: Easily jump between sections using headings.
Style Sets: Apply consistent formatting across long documents.
I've been using PowerPoint since elementary school, and I used to think PowerPoint was boring, but I learned a few cool things! And it's actually kind of fun to use.
Slide Master: Add images and change fonts for the whole presentation!
Presenter View: See notes and upcoming slides while presenting.
Screen Recording: Capture demos directly into slides.
Excel always intimidated me, but the simulation broke it down step-by-step. I learned how to use it not just for calculations, but for organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data.
Conditional Formatting: Highlight trends and outliers visually.
Data Validation: Create dropdowns and restrict inputs for cleaner data.
Flash Fill: Automatically fill in patterns without formulas.
Looking back, I learned more than I thought I did! I feel equipped to use all software more effectively. I also understand OneDrive a little better and learned about a new program called Diagrams.net.
Since I used the computers in the lab, I got a chance to explore a little more. I only ever used a Chromebook, so this was a new experience for me. Overall, I'm more comfortable with technology, and there is no doubt I will use the skills I learned in the class
