Health and fitness are important parts of daily life. Young Athletes, a sport and play program for children with and without disabilities, helps children of all abilities enjoy physical activity, develop healthy habits, build important skills and reach their full potential. Use the Young Athletes in Schools Guide in your classroom to support preschool to grade 5 learning outcomes and cognitive and physical development.
Young Athletes can be run in many safe settings. These include a gym during physical education time or in the classroom/outdoors during a time dedicated to motor development or play.
Once you know which setting where your Young Athletes classes will take place, choose a lesson plan below that works best for your class. Click the Blue, Red, Green or Orange Plan boxes to find the structure of activities within each.
The lesson plans accompany the activity cards which can be referenced below. Each lesson plan will indicate which cards are needed in order to do that plan. You can also utilize the Young Athletes Activity Guide for other activity ideas as well as modification and healthy play ideas. You may also download the PECS sheet that was created our friends at Parker Road Preschool in Shrewsbury, MA. This PECS sheet can be used to create a visual schedule for students who may need more visual support during Young Athletes activities.
