What does a student need to know and be able to do by the time high school ends? In December 2019, 13 communities across New England set out to answer this question through a uniquely inclusive process. With funding from The Barr Foundation and technical support from The Learning Agenda, school and school system leaders in these communities engaged students, parents, and business, nonprofit, and political leaders. Together they worked to create a North Star for their education work called a “Portrait of a Graduate.” This is a way to articulate their community’s vision of the abilities and knowledge students must have to succeed beyond high school.
Below are the Portraits that emerged from this critical first phase of the work to transform learning in these communities.
