The pre-work consists of two items; we anticipate this pre-work to take around 45 minutes to complete.
Read and annotate Springpoint’s Rigor & Purpose for Transformative Learning. Reflect on your own core values and beliefs about what excellent learning and teaching looks like. As you read, what resonates with you? Is there anything you named that is not reflected in the document? We will use this pre-work as a basis for our PLC conversation about what we believe to be 'excellent'.
After reading, please capture your current thinking here about what you KNOW and still NEED TO KNOW about Rigor & Purpose. Please use the frame of your current role when filling out the document.
Collect and submit by 10/22 3-4 pieces of student work for a LASW protocol in the following folder; consider the following when choosing the work:
Choose an assignment/task that involves lots of thinking and gives students some freedom in approaching the task. Avoid work that consists primarily of answers with little explanation or involves applying a well-defined procedure. It is useful to share several pieces of student work that show different approaches to the same assignment.
We encourage you to submit accompanying rubrics and student-facing materials that help students understand the task.
Ideally, the student work comes from the teacher's classroom on your PLC Core Team so that the teacher can provide the necessary context for the task.
NOTE: Each school only needs one set of student work; please coordinate with the other members of your team in your school. TLA will make photocopies of the work for our time at the convening.
If you need support in thinking about either piece of pre-work please reach out to your PLC Coach who is happy to have a conversation with you and your team about how to think about both items.
