Advancing sustainability and innovation through polymers
The United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) call for global action to address pressing challenges - ending poverty, improving health and education, reducing inequality, promoting economic growth, and tackling climate change.
Innovative solutions are essential to achieve these goals, and polymeric materials, combined with nanotechnology, are at the forefront of this transformation - driving advancements in healthcare, energy, clean water, food security, and climate resilience.
In biomedical applications, polymer innovations have revolutionized medical science, enabling groundbreaking developments such as mRNA vaccines. These materials continue to shape the future of healthcare, sustainability, and technology.
The POLY-CHAR legacy
POLY-CHAR is a global platform for polymer science, driving advancements in:
Synthesis, characterization, and processing
Industry applications and recycling
Education and environmental impact
Beyond research, POLY-CHAR fosters international collaborations, student exchanges, and knowledge-sharing, bringing together scientists in polymer characterization and materials science.
The last POLY-CHAR conference held in Africa was in 2014. Now, in 2025, Mauritius - The Star and Key of the Indian Ocean - will host POLY-CHAR, bridging continents through scientific and cultural exchange.
The foundation of polymer chemistry in Mauritius was established in 1995 with the introduction of the first polymer chemistry course at the Department of Chemistry, University of Mauritius. Nearly three decades later, this foundation has led to the creation of the Center for Biomedical and Biomaterials Research (CBBR), which applies polymer science to nanotechnology applications and supports regional R&D initiatives. This platform fosters strong collaborations with leading institutions, including:
🌍 Cyclotron Réunion Océan Indien (CYROI, Réunion Island)
🌍 Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI, Botswana)
🌍 Monash University Malaysia
🌍 Wits Advanced Drug Delivery Platform (WADDP, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa)
✨ Join us in Mauritius for POLY-CHAR 2025 - where science meets sustainability, innovation, and global collaboration! ✨
