Central City's Tournament

How the Tournament Works

In the Central City Gym, players can sign up in Multi-Battle Tournaments to compete for Battle Points (BP).

To enter a tournament, players must select three Pokémon, which will be set to level 50. They will use these three Pokémon in Multi-Battles alongside another trainer, against a pair of two opposing trainers, each of whom also have three level 50 Pokémon.

Each tournament lasts up to five rounds. If a player can win four rounds in a row, they win 1BP. If they can win all five rounds, they instead win 3BP.

When players win a tournament, there is achance they will be offered the chance to take part in an Exhibition Match.

Ally Trainers

As each battle in a tournament is a Multi-Battle, players will need a partner trainer to battle alongside. Depending on the player's gender, either Jay or Ellie will fight alongside them, using items created by Daedalus.

Every Pokémon on Jay and Ellie's teams is level 50, has two stats with 252 EVs each, and has perfect IVs in every stat.

Jay and Ellie's teams are identical, save for the genders of their Pokémon.

(Jay and Ellie's teams will almost certainly be changed later in development.)

In each of the first four rounds of a tournament, a pair of trainers will be randomly selected from the following pool of trainers, each of whom will have three Pokémon randomly selected from their listed teams. (The order these Pokémon are sent out in is also random.)

Each of these trainers' Pokémon will be level 50, have two stats with 128 EVs each, and have 0 IVs in every stat.

Many of these trainers were submitted by players, so each trainer will be credited to their submitter.

Exhibition Matches

When players win a tournament, they may be offered the chance to take part in an Exhibition Match against a pair of Gym Leaders or similarly powerful boss trainers. (This never happens on a player's first tournament win, but to always happen on a player's second win. On their third win onwards, there is a 50% chance an Exhibition Match will be offered.)

If they accept and win, players receive 6BP, doubling their score. But if they accept and lose, players receive 0BP, losing everything they earned in the tournament.

In Exhibition Matches, each opposing trainer has a set party and battle partner. Unlike trainers faced during the tournament itself, their teams and partners are not randomized. However, which pair of trainers players will face will still be selected randomly from the following pool.

Each of these trainers' Pokémon will be level 50, have two stats with 252 EVs each, and have 15 IVs in every stat.
