Calgary physiatrist Dr. Stephanie Plamondon is has helped bring music therapy to the world of neurorehabilitation. This is an area of both a research and personal interest. Dr. Plamondon is the medical lead for the H.E.A.R. Music Committee (Health, Education, Advocacy, Research).
ICANWALK App
Dr. Ranita Manocha is an MSK Physiatrist with a research interest in gait, biomechanics and walking aids. Her laboratory runs trials investigating these issues, and she has developed an App called ICANWALK to help patients using their gait aids.
Robotics in Neurorehabilitation
Dr. Sean Dukelow is our former research chair and is highly prominent in the world of stroke rehabilitation. His laboratory investigates robotics and the use of technology in neurorehabilitation (please note below are only images, not YouTube links).
Stem Cells and Regenerative Research
Dr. Vince Gabriel is a burn rehabilitation specialist and is studying the effects of stem cell and regenerative medicine for burn victims.
Concussion Research
Dr. Chantel Debert is a brain injury physiatrist with an interest in concussion. She is leads multitudinous post-concussion research studies including the roles of exercise and transmagnetic stimulation for prolonged concussion symptoms.
Survive and Thrive
Dr. Lauren Capozzi, one of our co-chief residents, previously completed a Ph.D. where she investigated the effects of exercise in cancer, with internationally renowned Kinesiologist Dr. Nicole Culos-Reed. Together they founded the Thrive Program, a non-profit organization for cancer survivors, and the Alberta Cancer Exercise (ACE) study which has been ongoing for several years.
