There are a number of areas where UofC trainees can gain exposure to physiatry, as well as non UofC trainees for electives:
Year 1 Medical students at the University of Calgary will learn about physiatry through their neurologic and musculoskeletal medicine lectures:
Physiatrist Dr. Gnanakumar is a musculoskeletal education coordinator. Drs. Grant & Manocha give lectures on musculoskeletal and fracture rehabilitation principles.
Several physiatrists and physiatry residents may teach small groups, physical examination in medical skills, and clinical core sessions.
Year 2 Medical students at the University of Calgary will learn further about physiatry through neurology teaching:
Staff physiatrists including Dr. Charbonneau, Dr. Debert and Dr. Leung give lectures on rehabilitation principles.
Several physiatrists and physiatry residents teach small groups, physical examination in medical skills, and clinical core sessions.
Shadowing. Medical students may shadow staff physiatrists in clinical activities - visit the Shadowing & Electives section for more details. Please note shadowing opportunities are limited dependent on staff availability.
