9am: Malachi and Alilia learned what a "table" is, the math type, not the one with four legs. Jeremiah, Ngahuia and Hone were interested in using tidy numbers to make working things out in your head easy.
For example: 199*5 is tricky, but the results is the same as 200*5 less 1*5 Also: 198*2 = 200*2 - 2*2
The image below is from Education Perfect, the quick tests to locate our gaps in knowledge.
We used factor trees to find the highest common prime factors. We multiplied the highest common prime factors together to get the highest common factor.
11:30am: These students stayed for the entire session: Alilia; Aleki; Sebastian; D.J. and Hone. Foli, Iosefo, Pita and Ngāhuia were there for part of the session. We did the transum ratio task, and then the factor tree and HCF tasks.
1pm: Alilia worked on Ratios - Level 2 transum task.
9am: Alilia and Ngāhuia. We did a Golden Ratio task on Education Perfect.
11:30am: Aleki; Alilia; Hone; Sunipa and Ngāhuia. We continued with the Transum Ratio task. We did Mathigon Multiplication by heart; Transum Quotient Master and Transum Tables Master.
1pm: Alilia & Hone. Phet Ratio and Ratio Blaster (Format issue in this one). We did the introduction to Ratios on Education Perfect. I showed the Box Method for Ratios, but read the question wrong twice! I must slow down, and really read these questions. Skim reading just wastes time, because it leads to mistakes. The question was about Bees in a hive and the ratio of Drones to Non-Drones.
9am: Ngahuia; Alilia; Jeremiah. Fun Friday.
11:30am: Texas; Sonny; Aleki; Iosefo; Alilia; Sunipa; Renei; Hone; Malachi. We used the Wheel of Names and worked through the transum tower.
1pm: Foli; Renei; Pita; Alilia. Continued with the Tran Tower, and we have not located the treasure yet.
