Here are some commonly asked question responses and general steps for how you as a Life Scout will navigate completing your Eagle Rank:
STEP 1: Know the Process
As a Scout you will work with your Troop's Eagle Guide/ Coach to complete the requirements and manage to your deadlines.
Pio Pico District Advancement Chairs are always available to provide advice, provide answers to questions and train Troop Eagle Guides/ Coaches as needed (Contact information for District Advancement Chairs is on the Contact List page on this site).
Once you have all of your papers together in your Eagle Binder, below are the steps to navigate the process:
Send an email to one of the Pio Pico District Advancement Chairs with a scan or clear photo of your Eagle Application and your Advancement Summary Report. (we catch a majority of typos and date errors this way without having the Scout have to drive back and forth with paperwork)
District Advancement Chairs review your Eagle Application for completeness and verify accuracy of all the dates listed. (it is very common to transpose a Merit Badge Date or use the date on a Blue Card instead of the official date on the Advancement Summary Report. The more a Scout thinks they can not have any mistakes, the more likely they have made one)
If there are corrections you will get an email back with a list. If everything is verified as correct, then a date and time will be scheduled to have you drop your Eagle Binder off to one of the District Advancement Chairs.
District Advancement Chairs complete a final formal review and add a Council Check Sheet to your Eagle Binder.
District Advancement Chairs schedule your Eagle Board of Review and forward your Eagle Binder to the Eagle Board of Review Chair. (You have three months past your 18th birthday to complete a Eagle Board of Review without requiring extentions. District Advancement Chairs work very hard to prioritize Eagle Board of Review on a first come, first served basis but can make exceptions to accommodate specific situations i.e. leaving for military deployment, leaving for college, birthday timing, etc... Most of all special considerations can be eliminated by following STEP 2 below)
STEP 2: Don't Procrastinate
Typically the steps to complete the Eagle Rank take six (6) months to one (1) year. It is not a sprint but a marathon; break it down into steps and tackle it one step at a time.
