News Gathering

One of the most pivotal parts of my job as a student journalist is actually gathering news from sources, and also doing some background research to back up what I have been told. Below are some examples of my notes from sporting events as well as a few pages of questions that I have come up with.

My process starts by reaching out to a source and then trying to set up an interview. For some of my articles, I have interviewed previous coaches of the subject or other people knowledgeable in the field. Oftentimes, a majority of my work comes after sporting events.

Over the years I have interviewed Trail Blazer's TV analyst Lamar Hurd in a Boston hotel for a feature story, as well as interviewing ex-Blazer Seth Curry after a Trail Blazers' game in Cleveland. Those are just a few examples of the extents that I will go to gather news and collect quotes that I can use in my writing.
