In this work, I aim to bring added value to what we seek to embellish.

 Herein lies the reconstructed value: what often goes unnoticed, hidden in our shadows—our past experiences, imperfections, and the things we have yet to forgive ourselves for.

 We need to transform these shadows into a heartbeat of life, giving value to forgiveness and acceptance, and embracing who we are in our own eyes. We exist behind the person we present to the world, behind the image reflected in the mirror. While we often hear the phrase "giving value to who you are," the idea of "embellishing yourself with added value" is not something we are typically taught.

Not all flowers are meant to be displayed. Let’s talk about us—those of us who seek perfection, like a beautiful flower: impeccable, brilliant, stunning, and intelligent. Yet, we often end up being displayed as static beauty, without acknowledging the wild growth inherent in nature. However, not all flowers can be hung up. Some reveal their beauty while still carrying their flaws, blooming boldly everywhere. I wanted to represent this type of flower through skeleton flowers, which, originally from Japan, have the unique characteristic of becoming transparent when in contact with water. The girl in this narrative embodies one of these flowers—a delicate bloom that sits with grace, embracing the strength of those who wished to display her.

Piet Mondrian believed that art should reflect the order and harmony present in nature and the universe. However, I wanted to depict the disorder and disharmony that exist in our world. I took inspiration from one of his works, transforming his squares and rectangles into torn and crumpled paper and cardboard against various backgrounds. Each background represents a theme: under the red/orange square, I placed eyes to symbolise forgotten victims of wars, abuse, and neglect. In the yellow rectangle, hand-dropping coins represent underpaid and exploited individuals, while the other hand depicts those who profit from their suffering. In the black rectangle, a garbage bag with a growing tree symbolises the toxic environments from which our food originates. Finally, the blue rectangle represents the consequences of excessive plastic consumption and environmental disregard.

Why did I choose Leonardo's Mona Lisa?

Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa is perfectly aligned with the golden section, which is also perfectly aligned with the Fibonacci sequence (golden number). The number 3 holds significance in various cultures and beliefs such as in Asian cultures and Christianity. This significance is reflected in the painting through elements like 3 triangles, 3 corners per triangle, and three sides per triangle, as well as the use of three primary colors. Pearls in the painting represent perfection and symbolize the perfection found in nature. The golden perfection expressed in the painting signifies the balance seen in nature. This balance is also reflected in art, architecture, and mathematics. The Penrose triangles, also known as impossible triangles, are used in the painting, symbolizing the idea that beauty cannot be confined to established standards imposed by society, culture, or religion. Instead, beauty lies in balance, just like the golden ratio present in nature. Beauty is unique and balanced, much like the balanced nature of a woman, who possesses her own golden ratio and does not require alterations to conform to societal standards.

 This painting was commissioned as the cover for a book about domestic violence. The picture symbolizes the dynamic between the abuser and the victim. The weapon pointed on the left represents those who use violence and strength to weaken their victim, while the rifle pointing downwards represents the victim who may have the same weapon to fight back but does not use it, choosing not to defend themselves. It can also be seen as a shield placed in front of the victim for protection from potential harm.

The phrase "the world on the contrary" represents a distinct perspective of viewing and experiencing the world, which need not comply with societal norms. Occasionally, our thoughts and perceptions transcend the boundaries, and since everyone's perception varies, it could be the right way to perceive things. The great minds of the past, including scientists, writers, artists, and others, are remembered today because their unique vision enabled them to create, explain or invent something novel. It's perfectly acceptable to be different, and at times our diversity is our greatest asset.

The painting conveys the idea of time and our relationship with its passage. The girl in the painting represents time, and the key on her back signifies her voice. This is because time always moves forward and cannot be reversed. The gears in the painting represent individuals who are all unique in their own way. However, one gear is dented, representing the fact that we are not perfect. The soap bubbles with flowers in the painting symbolize memories that fade or are forgotten over time. The bubbles appear at the moment of shattering, just like memories that eventually fade away with time.

I have painted a representation of how differences can bring individuals closer together. In this painting, I have depicted opposites such as man and woman, hot and cold, smooth and rough, which are all characteristics that exist in the world. My intention was to show that even though these traits are opposite to one another, they can still coexist and complement each other. I have used the concept of yin and yang to illustrate this idea, with two faces facing opposite directions and painted in their respective colours. The two colours then blend together in a mix that is enriched by flowers, which symbolizes the growth that can occur through mutual understanding and cooperation.

I spent 22 consecutive hours creating this painting with the intention of presenting it as a showpiece at the Leytonstone Art Trail exhibition. I immediately fell in love with it and received many compliments. It was even identified as my best piece by many people. I received several offers to buy it, but they were all below my asking price. Therefore, I decided not to sell it to anyone. This painting is very precious to me and is now a part of my personal collection. Even if I were to receive an adequate offer, I wouldn't sell it. Although the hand defect in the painting used to bother me, I feel that it adds to the beauty of the piece now, and I wouldn't correct it.

As I come from a world of charcoal and pencils, black and white seemed to be the only option that would suit me. I sold this painting in Switzerland to a customer of the restaurant where I worked.
