Pierina Militello was born in a quaint Sicilian town.
From her childhood, she had a profound love for art, which she expressed both in school and at home.
"Art is my refuge, but it's also how I connect with others".
She started holding a pencil in her hand at a young age, learning how to write and draw with the help of her mother.
Drawing became an essential part of her daily life, a way to relieve stress from school days and endure the bullying she faced in primary school.
At the age of 14, she stumbled upon Milo Manara's drawings in a magazine and was captivated by the beauty of figurative art. She began to imitate Manara's style and create similar drawings in her diaries and notebooks, which inspired her classmates. However, her interests soon shifted towards fashion and portraiture. She began designing complete wedding dress collections and practising portraiture and pen drawing by replicating characters from magazines.
"Whenever I learn something new, I become very passionate about it. I buy materials and practice the technique or style of drawing repeatedly until I achieve the desired outcome. However, once I have mastered the technique or style, I tend to lose interest and move on to a new obsession".
When combined with reading and writing, art becomes a necessity in life. These passions become integral spaces that one cannot live without. She used charcoal and graphite exclusively during this time, having previously used pen for portraits. This passion persisted until she was around 28 years old when she began to set it asid
At 29 year:"My sister gave me a pack of acrylics, a handful of brushes, a canvas, and an easel as a gift. However, I had no idea how to paint with them. My first attempt at painting was a disaster, and I almost gave up on it. Luckily, I met my best friend, who is an artist and she encouraged me to create with my tools, even if I felt like I didn't know how to use them".
As time passed, she continued to use acrylic as her preferred medium for making art. She travelled extensively for work, visiting France, and Switzerland, before finally settling in England which became her home. It was in England that she had her first collective exhibition, an opportunity she was grateful for.
The first exhibition was a dream come true, but in the following years, she found herself with little free time due to a heavy workload. As a result, art became a hobby to release daily tensions. However, in 2022, something sparked her interest in cake designing, which she did quite well. Unfortunately, she lacked the time and space to continue. With the help of encouragement and strengthened self-esteem, she searched for a style that would make her recognizable. This led her back to her true passion: painting.
Today, she is a recognized contemporary artist.
"Over the years, I've dedicated myself to exploring different artistic techniques. From soft pastels to watercolours to studying anatomy, I've tried it all. My motivation behind this was to express my emotions and connect with others through my art. Though I didn't have a clear plan, I knew it was something I needed to do. And it's been an incredibly fulfilling journey
Today, she feels compelled to share her stories, her perspective on the world, her dreams and aspirations, and her inner and outer worlds. The need for acceptance and connection has always existed within her, and she can no longer silence it.
Her world must be shared.
