Admission

We detail here the specific admission requirements of our PhD Program (you can find the general admission requirements of the UAB here ). In order to proceed with the admission application, you must do it online at this link (if you are not a UAB student, you can obtain a user name: instructions can be found here ).

There are two ways to be accepted in our PhD program:

A. Complete the Master in Applied Research in Economics and Business (MAREB)

Application from outstanding students completing the MAREB are very welcome. If they want to apply for admission to the PhD program, their application has to include:

1. A motivation letter indicating your interest in our PhD program including (i) why you wish to complete your thesis at the Department of Applied Economics; (ii) a brief outline (one page) of your proposed research; (iii) the professors of the Department you would like to work with (potential supervisors).

2. Academic record of BA and Masters.

3. Master and BA degrees' certificates.

4. Acceptation letter of the potential supervisor/tutor (optional) Template

The academic board of the PhD program will decide on the applications taking into account the performance in the MAREB courses, the ability of the candidate to do a quality work autonomously (as shown by the master dissertation); and the availability of an appropriate supervisor for the proposed research.

B. Enrolment with a master in Economics from other academic institution

Only in very exceptional cases do we accept students coming with a master in Economics from other institution. In order to be accepted in our PhD program with a master in Economics from another institution, the master completion must be recent and the master must be well-known and well reputed. In this case, in order to be considered for admission, the candidate must deliver the following information to the Department of Applied Economics (d.econ.aplicada@uab.cat):

1. A motivation letter indicating the interest in our PhD program including (i) why you wish to complete your thesis at the Department of Applied Economics; (ii) a brief outline (one page) of your research proposal; (iii) the professors of the Department you would like to work with (you may check the webpage of the Department of Applied Economics and the information on Faculty members in this webpage).

2. Academic record of BA and Masters.

3. Master and BA degrees' certificates.

4. A copy of the master dissertation.

5. Information of the master courses, including hours, content, assessment method, etc.

6. Two reference letters by referees knowing your academic work.

7. Your curriculum vitae.

8. Acceptation letter of the potential supervisor/tutor (optional) Template

The Academic board of the program will evaluate the application and give an answer in less than two weeks. There is the possibility to get a conditional acceeptance that implies to pass some credits of selected subjects from the Master in Applied Research in Economics and Business.The results of these academic requirements will be fundamental to get the full admission to our PhD Program.
