LED Light Kits

LED light kits designed to complement the look and realism of your slot car

Originally designed for Slot.it Group C cars participating in a 2.4 hour endure race during which two rounds raced in “twilight” and one round raced in darkness. The original kits used small but bright 1.8mm diameter LEDs. This made it possible to craft a car with working head and tail lights while maintaining the realistic exterior of the car.

This maintenance of reality is what I continue to stress when I am faced with the challenge of creating lights for a new car. When Slot.it introduced their Porsche 962 IMSA car they had made some minor design changes which created a very small space in which to install front LEDs. Thus was born the low profile light kit utilizing LEDs with a depth of less than 2 mm. This new low profile kit has made its’ way into numerous other cars where space is a factor.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Operating voltage range is 8 VDC to 12 VDC. Important – many wall transformers sold with slot car sets output more than 12 VDC, regardless of what might be listed on the transformer itself.

STANDARD KITS

  • PLKT12vSC – 1.8mm diameter cool white front, 1.8mm diameter standard red rear

  • PLKT12vSW – 1.8mm diameter warm white front, 1.8mm diameter standard red rear

  • PLKT12vLC – low profile cool white front, 1.8mm diameter or Low Profile red rear

  • PLKT12vLW – low profile warm white front, 1.8mm diameter or Low Profile red rear

CUSTOM CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

Headlights

  • 1.8mm diameter cool or warm white – used where space is not an issue

  • 3.2mm diameter low profile cool or warm white – used where space is a concern

  • 3mm diameter cool white, warm white or yellow standard LEDs – used in larger models where space is not a limitation and in some cars where predrilled mounting holes are 3mm. Scalextric, for example, did this on some of their older cars.

Taillights

  • 1.8mm diameter red

  • 3.2mm diameter red low profile

  • 3mm diameter red

  • 5mm diameter red “top hat” – used in some cars to provide a very good looking finished look with the LED itself. Wrapping with chrome foil/tape enhances the look.

Other

  • Lead length designed for either 1/32 or 1/24 scale.

  • LED colours – I can do other colours (example, orange or yellow headlights for GT class), just send me an email and ask, I try to keep a varied inventory of lights at all times.

  • Additional sets of head and/or tail lights, at extra cost.

  • Higher voltage option, for use with digital or standard set transformers. This option is available at extra cost, as it requires a couple extra components.
