This year's CWSF was virtual and took place on computer screens across the country over the week of May 17th. Darcie Fortier and Carissa Belhomme from Hines Creek, Elizabeth Warkentin from Peace River, Grace and Emily Doris from McLennan, Mya Cardinal from High Prairie, and Sacha Nickonchuk from Peace River represented the Peace Country at the event that gathered hundreds of the country's top young scientists for a week of competition, discovery, and celebration. Congratulations to Carissa Belhomme and Darcie Fortier for winning a bronze medal (pictured below)!
On behalf of the PCRSF committee, we would like to congratulate each of you for the countless hours of hard work and dedication that earned you a spot among the best and brightest in the country. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors, and hope to see you again next year.

The 2021 virtual PCRSF took place over the week of March 15-19 with participants from across the Peace Region. Despite the current public health situation, we had seven students submit five amazing projects to the fair, and both the judges and the organizing committee were impressed with the top-rate work! We would like to congratulate all the students on their hard work and dedication, and we wish them well in all their future endeavors.
Given the virtual nature of this year's fair, you have two different ways to learn about this year's winners: the suspenseful way, and the direct way. Should you want to experience the suspense of an in-person awards ceremony, watch this short VIDEO from PCRSF President Mr. Pittman. If, on the other hand, you are the kind of person that likes reading SPOILERS, we have listed the winners in this DOCUMENT.
We would like to take a moment to thank this year's sponsors - particularly Genome Alberta and Rogers Communications - and the wonderful volunteers that made this event possible!
Thanks again to everyone who participated in this year's fair! We hope to see everyone again next year (hopefully in-person)!

It's official: PCRSF 2021 is now underway! You can look at all of this year's projects by visiting the Project Zone (click HERE or use the navigation panel). All of the entries include a video presentation and supplementary information, all of which is accessible in the Project Zone. If there are any issues with access, or with anything else, please don't hesitate to contact Adam Rhodes (admrhodes@gmail.com) or any other member of the PCRSF committee with your concern.
For students: You will be contacted sometime this week to set up interviews with judges to take place on Friday. In the meantime, the judges will be reviewing your submissions and coming up with questions to ask you during your interview. If you do not hear from anyone with the fair by Friday, please contact a member of the PCRSF committee right away. After final judging decisions have been made on Friday afternoon, a video announcement of the winners will be posted to this page on Saturday - so please check back here regularly!
Thank you to all the participants and all the volunteers that have made this year's virtual fair possible. Good luck, and have fun!

As you are finalizing your project submissions, we want to remind you that it is very important that you update the permissions on your Google Drive folder to "Anyone with a link" can "View". Detailed step-by-step instructions can be found HERE, and, if you prefer memes, the key information is summed up nicely HERE.
If you forget to change these permissions at the time of submission, the sharing of your project may be delayed, as we will have to contact you directly and have you update the permissions before we can share it.
If you have any questions about the Drive folder permissions, please don't hesitate to contact Adam Rhodes (admrhodes@gmail.com) or any other member of the PCRSF committee. Looking forward to seeing all of your wonderful projects!

With the fair scheduled to start in just under two weeks, we are glad to announce that student registration is now open.
NEW this year, students will submit a short (3-5 minutes) video presentation of their project for the judges to watch before a scheduled discussion between students and judges. Please note that students will be asked for a link to a Google Drive folder containing their video presentation and other supplementary materials. Instructions on how to make and share this folder are provided HERE. We have also drafted some guidelines on the content of the video HERE.
The registration deadline is March 14, with judges reviewing the video submissions between March 15 and 18, and judging interviews scheduled on the 19th. For full schedule, click HERE.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Kristen Blanchette (kblanchette@hpsd.ca) or any other member of the PCRSF committee.

Edited March 11: submission deadline was pushed to March 14 and instructions for sharing Drive folder updated
We are excited to (tentatively) announce that the 2021 edition of the PCRSF will take place between March 15 and 19. This year's fair will be virtual, with a few new components including the submission of a video presentation of the students' projects and judging done via tele- or video-conferencing. At this stage of the preparations, we are in the process of developing the final schedule. To help with that process, we have opened the School Registration for this year's fair to be filled out by the region's science teachers. To spread the word in your school, feel free to print off this year's posters - they touch on topics ranging from astronomy, geology, and statistics (including some research done right here in Alberta!). While we do understand that many schools have chosen not to do science fair at school this year, we still hope that the students who qualified last year will choose to participate, and maybe with some encouragement we can get some students doing new projects this year!
Keep your eyes on this website for additional details as the date of the fair approaches. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kristen Blanchette (kblanchette@hpsd.ca) or any other member of the PCRSF committee.
