Preparation Advice

Taiwanese people are generally very good at English, so communication in English is not a problem. Safety is also not an issue, but because there are many motorcycles and cars on the roads, be especially cautious about traffic safety. Although it is safer than in Europe, you still need to be mindful and avoid placing your belongings to save a seat with your purse or cellphone, as you might do in Korea.

Most foreign nationals can enter Taiwan with visa-free for up to 90 days (depending on nationality). However, those from Hong Kong will need to apply for a visa in advance. If you have to fill in the arrival documents:

Many street vendors in Taiwan still primarily accept cash for transactions. Upon arrival in Taiwan, you can prepare Taiwanese currency (NTD) in advance, 100, 500, 1000 bill is most common used in Taiwan. You may also exchange Korean Won or US Dollars with Paul.

Taiwan’s voltage is 110V, and the power outlets are flat two-prong, the same as in the United States. Most phone and laptop chargers support voltages from 100V to 240V, so you only need to bring the appropriate plug adapter.

Taiwan’s winter weather typically ranges from 10°C to 20°C, which is very comfortable. However, because it is more humid and frequently rainy, it may feel a bit colder, so be sure to bring an umbrella. Since we will be visiting the mountains, if you're concerned about mosquitoes, remember to bring mosquito repellent.
