Sant Jordi is a Catalan holiday that quickly became my favorite holiday ever. Every April 23rd, the city of Barcelona is full of books and roses - a celebration of love and literature. The roses are connected to the tale of St. George slaying the dragon, and a symbol of love. The books are connected to the deaths of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes. On Sant Jordi everyone gifts roses and books - it's like a literary Valentine's Day.
The ASB library always holds a massive book sale on Sant Jordi Day. Parents buy books for their children, students buy for their parents and teachers, and everyone buys books for each other. It's a huge job, but such a great celebration of reading!
