My work on the IT Strategic Team, as well as active collaborating to teach research skills within the MYP curriculum, led to another exciting opportunity. My second year at ACS I was granted a secondment, along with another middle school teacher, to coauthor a handbook for the MYP students, teachers and parents. The handbook contains the learner expectations for research and writing within the framework of the MYP Approaches to learning for grades 5-10. It was published as an iBook, and each learner expectation links to details of school expectations, exemplary models, links, videos and other support to help students meet those expectations. It helped to clarify our school's expectations and create a more consistent learning environment. The MYP gave its blessing to the project, and we share ownership with ACS, the MYP and the co-authors. Unfortunately, though, it could only be shared within the ACS community per copyright agreements. I am allowed to show it to people on request, but it cannot be made available for download.
Here are some samples of the Approaches to Learning graphics that was used to detail the skills and expectations. Each graphic was used as a 'homepage' for that skill cluster, with each expectation a link to more information, resources and support. Because we created these as original pieces I have permission to share them with you.
