At Moreland Road I taught every Pre-school through 5th grade class for 45 minutes each and every week. I loved the teaching part of my job! We played games, and learning really became alive when they were with me in the Media Center. The students learned library and research skills that help them in school, their education, and in life. Here are a few of my favorite lessons:
Second graders race to put tangible items in ABC order - dvds, games, candy, canned foods, etc. It's amazing how much harder ABC order can be with things instead of just words on a page!
At the beginning of the year, 'Dr. Saiva Book' always came by the to make sure the children know how to take care of their books. She shows them what happens when they don't - the books have to go to the book hospital!
This is a take-off on the television show "The Amazing Race." Pairs of students receive an envelope with clues to their first destination. They use the clues and their atlas to figure out their destinations, and then race to find them. They turn in their answer, page numbers, and coordinates to receive the next destination. The first pair to know the final destination wins!
