ASB was in the process of expanding, with new construction starting just after we left Barcelona. I was able to visit during the 2015 ECIS General Conference - and the new library is AMAZING!
But until the new construction started, I worked to make the best use of the space that was there. I directed the first-ever inventory of the library. Weeding was a priority, and we weeded over 1000 books, all of which were older than me (33 years at the time), moldy, or falling apart. Examples included a book on modern rap that was 20 years old as well and a book on East Germany (in the present tense)! I posted new colorful foam letter signs on the walls and updated displays, trying to create a space that was open and inviting to students, teachers, and parents.
My first year we focused on the elementary side of the library, and the next two were spent focusing on the secondary side. I ordered over 10,000 Euros worth of new books for the secondary students and worked hard to market them to the students. Statistics almost doubled within a year's time.
