Pennsylvania has a history of being slow to modernize the laws governing midwifery practice. Did you know that Pennsylvania was the last state in the entire US to grant midwives prescriptive authority? (ACNM, 2007)
Due to tireless coordinated advocacy efforts, in April 2021 Virginia became the 8th state to recognize Certified Midwives and the 28th state to grant midwives full practice authority (ACNM, 2021)
