Please:
Wear swimsuit
Wear sun protection including sunscreen, protective clothing, hat, etc.
Bring a towel
Bring filled water bottle
Bring snacks
Bring cardboard boat
Bring paddle for racing (does NOT have to be made of cardboard; CAN be canoe paddle or boat oar)
Bring personal flotation device (PFD) (may borrow if you don't have one)
Check-in at 10 AM
Safety lesson (5 minutes)
Swim check (10 minutes)
Cardboard Regatta Race
Free swim (pending time avaliable)
Award ceremony for Regatta
Adjourn at 12 PM (you will need to bring your boat home and dispose of it on your own)
You may only use Cardboard, Duct Tape, Rope, or String
Boats should be made in the weeks prior to the race ... preferably not the day before or morning of the race.
Boats must be made ONLY of cardboard, duct tape, rope or string. NO reinforced cardboard tubes. Only broken-down cardboard boxes.
Cardboard cannot be sealed with any paint, glue, or sealants.
Duct tape may be of varying colors for creativity.
Boats may be a maximum width of 60 (5 ft) and a maximum length of 84 (7ft). There is no maximum height requirement.
Boats must be propelled by the use of paddles, oars, and/or hands.
Paddles may be canoe paddles, boat oars, or made of cardboard & duct tape. We will have extra paddles to borrow if you don't have any.
If any illegal items used in construction are discovered during the pre-race inspection, the boat will be allowed to adjust construction before race.
Boats will need to be designed to carry one or two Scouts.
Each person on a boat is required to wear a PFD (Personal Flotation Device). Please bring your own. But if you dont have one then well provide one.
Teammates who are not in the boat may help push the boat away from the starting pool edge at the beginning of the race and pull it back onto the ending pool edge at the race finish.
Boats will be judged on their creativity as part of the pre-race activities. Awards will be given in a variety of creativity categories.
Boats will be judged by their speed in the race. Awards will be given at each rank level.
