Chocolate Bar Fundraiser- January 17th - 10am to 2pm - Stop and Shop
At Pack 161, we want every Cub Scout to feel included, respected, and proud to be part of the Pack—no matter their financial situation or any challenges that might make wearing the uniform difficult.
Wearing the Cub Scout uniform helps build a sense of pride, belonging, and teamwork. But we also understand that not every family can get every piece of the uniform. That’s okay! No Scout will ever be left out of meetings, activities, or advancement because they don’t have a uniform. We’re here to support all Scouts and their families.
Here’s what to know about uniforms in Pack 161:
Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms to special events like the Blue & Gold Banquet, Crossover Ceremonies, Parades, Flag Placings, and Fundraisers. Uniforms can also be worn at regular Pack Meetings to help build team spirit.
Pack 161 follows a “belts-up” uniform approach. This means official pants, shorts, skorts, and socks are always optional. Neckerchiefs, slides, and caps are optional too, but are encouraged at community facing and special events.
We want every Scout to feel welcome and confident, whether they’re in full uniform or not. If you have any questions on uniform items, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.

How much does the uniform cost? - A blue uniform shirt and all the patches will be about $50. (Lions do not wear the button down uniform, their Lion Cub Shirt is $15), Caps are about $25, Neckerchief and Slide are about $21, and Belt is $15. Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts should have a Adventures Colors which is about $8. Arrow of Light Scouts wear the tan Scouting BSA uniform. The shirt and belt is a little more expensive, but it is the uniform they will wear when they cross over to a Scouting BSA Troop.
Which patches do I need to get for my uniform? You will need a Connecticut Rivers Council patch, a World Crest Scouting Patch, World Crest Ring Emblem, and Pack Numbers. We do not use Den Numbers, so a Den Number Patch is not required. If you shop in person at the Scout Shop in Hartford, you can pay to have the shop sew on all the patches.
Do I need to get a new uniform every year? No - when buying a uniform shirt, it's suggested to size up 1 or 2 sizes from what currently fits your scout. Ideally your scout should get at least 2 years out of their uniform shirt. If your scout is going into their Webelos year and needs a new uniform, skip the blue uniform shirt and go with the Tan uniform shirt that will be used their AOL year and into Scouts BSA.
When I have to get a larger uniform, do I need to buy all new patches? No - when you scout needs a larger size uniform shirt, all the patches can be removed from the old uniform shirt and sewn onto the new uniform shirt. Often scouts like to keep their last uniform shirt with all their scout badges on them before starting Arrow of Light and transitioning to the Tan uniform. Scouting BSA uses the same Tan uniform Arrow of Light uses.
What's the minimum I should get if I don't have a complete uniform day 1? If your Cub Scout does not have a complete uniform, you should at minimum invest in a blue Cub Scout belt if your Cub Scout is a Lion, Tiger, Wolf, or Bear or an Adventures Colors if your Cub Scout is a Webelos or Arrow of Light. These two items are where your Cub Scout will display their completed Adventures. Belts are cut to length - cut them so your Cub Scout has at least 6-8 inches to grow into it though their Webelos year.
