BLESSING OF ORGAN and INAUGURAL RECITAL
Tuesday 20th October at 7:00 pm at the RC Church of our Lady Help of Christians
& St Denis
The renovation of our 1884 William Hill & Son Organ, designed by William Rockstro, master of ceremonies in this church and a renowned composer who studied under Mendelssohn, is now complete. To celebrate the renovation, all are warmly invited to a Service of Blessing of the Organ by Bishop Nicholas Hudson and an Inaugural Recital by David Davies. Entrance is free with donations kindly invited by way of a retiring collection. Refreshments will be available at the event.
David Davies has held church and cathedral appointments both in the USA and the UK. He has been Organist of Buckfast Abbey, Assistant Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral, and is Organist at the University
of Exeter and now at Sidmouth Parish Church.
David trained as an organist, pianist and conductor at Eton College, Magdalen College, Oxford, and the Institute of Sacred Music, Yale University.
He has given concerts across the USA, Japan, South Africa and in several European countries. He also tutors on organ academy courses, and lectures frequently on the arts and liturgy.
Monday 16 to Friday 20 November: Our parish will be the venue for a week of Guided Prayer following the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola. Full details will follow in the coming weeks.
