Our pupils are fascinated by bats, occasionally they visit the classrooms as we have them in one of the school buildings.
First we researched what types of bats are native to our local area. Then pupils looked at a field study guide to bats. This as well as their research enabled pupils to create their own branching databases based on bats. We used J2Data - branching database to create their work.
As a link from their research pupils were very keen to buy a Bat detector kit (bought on Amazon), they built the kit and this was then used to record the echo location of local bats.
