SCUTTLEBUTT APPRECIATION DINNER
SATURDAY JANUARY 20, 2024
SCUTTLEBUTT APPRECIATION DINNER
The Scuttlebutt Goes Out With Appreciation
by Becky Folkenberg
It was a special evening of recognition for all the years of work that went into the creation and distribution of the park's Scuttlebutt. Some of those special folks are no longer with us but were recognized anyway with family members stepping in to accept their certificates on their behalf. If you missed our dinner, you missed the feeling that something special was about to happen.
Guests were treated to a dining experience of a room filled with white table clothes, accented by silver, gold and black decorated tables. The individual plates of green guacamole, red salsa and chips added a colorful surprise to the elegance. A walk back in time with past Scuttlebutt issues were also on display for our enjoyment. Kathie Lanker did an outstanding job making everyone feel welcomed and thanked. Susan Carr and her team of helpers orchestrated the kitchen of servers and food making sure guests were well taken care of. Thanks to Yolanda’s Restaurant no guest went home hungry or disappointed. If the goal was to make you feel welcomed and special, the Scuttlebutt Appreciation Dinnder event did just that.
Thank you to everyone who RSVPed in a timely manner. See you at our next event.

A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT THE SCUTTLEBUTT
I have a 1984 Scuttlebutt, in which all of the content was "pasted" on the page by hand after everything had been "typed" on a typewriter (ask your grandkids if they know what a typewriter is)!!!
The next closest Scuttlebutt that I have is a December 2001 issue, and I have every one of them from that date on (four full binders)!
Management had always paid for the printing of the Scuttlebutt. However, in 2007, during the time when Mina Carr was the Editor (Brian and Patty Can's morn), management decided they were no longer going to pay for the printing. They would continue to produce a newsletter, BUT only with their content and under their control. At that time, Mina Can, my husband Chip, and I, along with Mike Aalbers (we were both co-editors), Mark Kupperman, and Grace Seidel, volunteered to find a way to keep the Scuttlebutt. as "A Newsletter for the Residents by the Residents."
Mark Kupperman said he would go to various businesses to solicit for advertisers to help pay for the printing of the Scuttlebutt. We decided on a business card price of $10.00 per month, but asked the advertisers to pay for a yearly subscription of $120.00 (that price remains the same to this day)!
Mark paid for an ad, Chip and I paid for an ad that was against rent control that was on the ballot (Proposition 98 & 99), Grace Seidel paid for an ad as she was a real estate agent living in the park also, Glen and Mike Aalbers paid for an ad for Glen's business.
Thus, the Scuttlebutt was kept alive with information pertaining to the residents which included Recreation Committee activities, HOA minutes and important state regulations regarding mobile home parks, articles, advertisers, etc.
At this time, I want to personally THANK EVERYONE who has ever been associated with the producing, editing, delivering, writing and just generally being involved to keep this wonderful Scuttlebutt newsletter going for all of these years.
