SUMMARY
Philippine Popular Culture made me realize the ways in which everyday trends, entertainment, and media create our society. I learned that pop culture entails music, films, television shows, fashion, food, and social media, which impact our way of thinking and living. In Introduction to Pop Culture, I learned that it continuously transforms according to what people prefer and how technology advances.
The Philippine Pop Culture History revealed to me how our tradition blended with foreign culture and influenced us to form a distinct identity. The learning about Structuralism, Post-Structuralism, and Marxism theories made me realize how pop culture indicates underlying facts regarding society, power, and class struggle. I also learned about gender and sexuality in pop culture, realizing how media influence people's perceptions of masculinity, femininity, and LGBTQ+ portrayals.
We also talked about commercial culture and consumption, in which I realized how companies harness trends to catch consumers. We talked about globalization, which helped me realize how foreign influences have an impact on local culture, and how Philippine pop culture is also propagating globally. This topic made me realize more the fact that pop culture is not merely entertainment it is a representation of our society's values, struggles, and aspirations. It made me more discerning about the media that I watch and more aware of Philippine culture.
