Medical: Medical is an inpatient unit that provides care for adult patients experiencing a wide variety of diagnoses, with some of the most common being respiratory failure, stroke, sepsis, and heart failure. The Health Scholar scope of practice will include all of the patient care tasks reviewed training.
Shift Times: Sunday through Saturday (7 days/week) at 7:00am, 11:00am, 3:00pm, and 7:00pm
Telemetry: Telemetry is an inpatient unit that provides care for adult patients requiring cardiac monitoring for a variety of conditions (e.g. chest pain, congestive heart failure, hypertensive disorders). The Health Scholar scope of practice will include tasks such as taking patient vitals, hooking up patients to heart monitors, assisting with patient care activities like bathing, changing, toileting, feeding, and ambulating patients, discharging patients, infection control measures (disinfecting equipment, beds, etc.), patient rounding, and more.
Shift Times: Sunday through Saturday (7 days/week) at 7:00am, 11:00am, 3:00pm, and 7:00pm
Acute Care Rehab: Acute Care Rehab is an inpatient rehabilitation team of occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists providing rehabilitative care to patients after surgery, injury, or other hospital admission. The Health Scholar scope of practice will include most of the patient care tasks reviewed during training.
Shift Times: Sunday through Saturday (7 days/week) at 8:00am and 1:00pm
Cardiac Rehab: Cardiac Rehab is an outpatient rehabilitation unit for patients who have had some type of heart event or condition (e.g. heart surgery, heart attack, angina, chronic heart failure). The Health Scholar scope of practice will include tasks such as taking patient vitals, hooking up patients to heart monitors, monitoring patient exercise, preparing education binders and materials, assisting staff with new patient orientation intake, infection control measures (disinfecting wheelchairs, exercise equipment, blood pressure cuffs, etc.), patient rounding, and more.
Shift Times: Monday through Thursday at 8:00am and 12:00pm
Administration: Scholars interested in doing a rotation in an administrative/support unit will connect directly with their Program Manager about their interests to find an appropriate placement. Some potential options include Human Resources, the Quality Department, or Clinical Education. Administrative areas do not include direct patient care, but rather are more project-based.
Shift times will vary be department, but it's fairly standard that administrative areas are open Monday through Friday between 8:00am-5:00pm, so shifts would fall within those days/times.
Emergency Department: The Emergency Department (ED) is an outpatient department that provides 24/7 services to patients whose condition requires immediate care before being discharged or transferred to another unit in the hospital. The Health Scholar scope of practice will include tasks such as assisting staff with patient triage, discharging and transferring patients, assisting with patient care activities like changing and ambulating patients, safety and infection control measures (identifying and labeling fall risk patients, disinfecting equipment, etc.), patient rounding, and more.
Shift Times: Sunday through Saturday (7 days/week) at 7:00am, 11:00am, 3:00pm, and 7:00pm
