As a Health Scholar, you will gain first-hand experience in both clinical and administrative health care settings and become an integral part of the care delivery team. You will assist with basic care for patients alongside nurses, physicians, and other members of the care delivery team, and have opportunities to learn the “business” of health care, preparing you for your health care career.
Why become a Health Scholar?
When you are interested in any career that has to do with medicine, it is integral to get experience in that specific field. This program helps you do that! There are so many options that allow you to get a real feel of what it is like to be in a hospital and working alongside like-minded professionals for the good of the patients— whether that be in a clinical or administrative setting. You will gain critical hands-on experience hours as you rotate through multiple hospital departments and gain an inside view of these different specialty areas.
What are the Logistics?
This program is offered year-round with enrollment occurring every quarter. Most individuals graduate from the program in 15 months after completing 280 hours of clinical experience with a commitment of one 4-hour shift per week. For those looking to complete the program faster, we offer 9-month, 6-month, and 3-month options where you will receive priority shift selection in order to finish at an accelerated pace.
Upon graduation, scholars will receive a completion certificate in Pre-Licensed Clinical Care and Patient Experience. The program is offered at various health care sites throughout Oregon, Washington, California, Washington, and Hawaii.
