Yes, you may re-apply. In your new application, highlight new insights or learning you have had since your last application. Do not resubmit the exact same application.

Take the application and interview process seriously. Spend time on your essays to demonstrate why you want to be in the program. Prepare for your interview and dress professionally. The Career Center at your college or university is a good resource for preparing for applications and interviews.

Proof of immunization and CPR certifications are due during your clearance appointment, which is scheduled before the first day of training. You do not need to complete these items before submitting your application.

Yes, you can transfer from one site to another site, depending on space availability at the new site. This can be a great option especially for college students who go to school somewhere different than where they live and are looking to continue completing hours for the program when home on school breaks. There is a $75 transfer fee that helps cover administrative costs of transferring locations.

Scholars rotate into new departments every three months after they complete a minimum of 48 hours in the current department. If a Scholar is on an accelerated track, however, they may have the opportunity to rotate sooner. Scholars will fill out a department preference survey each rotation and are placed in new departments as space becomes available.

The number of clinical areas varies based on a few factors: the length of time the site has been open, the size of the site, and the needs of the site. For new sites opened within the last two years, like Adventist Health Portland, one to two new clinical areas are typically opened every three months. For smaller sites, an acute care site with a relatively low number of beds, fewer areas are available because the site will have fewer clinical areas overall. The needs of the site also play a role – some sites will need more students in certain clinical areas and thus may have fewer open clinical areas.

Yes, we do accept scholarships and grant funds from outside organizations. If you have been granted financial assistance from an outside organization, contact the site Program Manager, Alyssa Rollins, at arollins@copehealthsolutions.com, for instructions on how to remit payment with that assistance.

The COPE Health Scholar program is for students interested in the healthcare field to gain hands-on training and clinical experience while interacting with all levels of medical staff to better understand the dynamics of a hospital environment. COPE Health Solutions is partnered with Adventist Health Portland, where students experience different clinical specialties while learning what it is like to provide basic patient care alongside licensed clinical staff. As a clinical program, we offer valuable opportunities to enhance the skills potential healthcare professionals will need to emphasize in their future careers. Our students receive an initial 30 hours of training where they will learn the basics of U.S. healthcare as well as hands-on tasks like taking patient vital signs. 

Upon program completion, scholars will receive a certificate of completion from the Keck Graduate Institute in Pre-Licensed Clinical Care and Patient Experience. Learning in a hospital setting has allowed our Scholars to further solidify their future role in the healthcare industry!

The COPE Health Scholar program is a clinical experience program similar to a volunteer program at the hospital, but we have developed training materials/curriculum that allow our Scholars to have a larger scope of practice than a hospital volunteer. Our program allows Scholars to experience many departments throughout the hospital. 

A CNA has a larger scope of practice than a Health Scholar, but our Health Scholars are able to see many different units and start exploring what type of unit they could see themselves working in. Health Scholars are unable to chart, take glucose levels, or walk a fall-risk patient. However, a Health Scholar is able to independently take vitals, round on patients, reposition and transfer patients, and assist staff in walking a fall-risk patient. The COPE Health Scholar program also allows nursing students the opportunity to network with staff, helping them secure employment opportunities in the future!
