Knots and Hitches

Both the Traditional Basic Climbing course and the Compressed Basic Climbing course will use and will test students on the following knots and hitches. These knots and hitches will be used throughout the course, and students will be required to tie each knot/hitch quickly and efficiently, as well as understand when each knot or hitch would be used in climbing.

• Figure Eight on a Bight

• Double Fisherman's Bend (Grapevine)

• Munter/Mule/Overhand (MMO) or Device/Mule/Overhand

Required Hitches

• Prusik Hitch

• Bachmann Hitch

• Munter Hitch

• Girth Hitch

• Clove Hitch

• Autoblock
